Meet Koda, a gorgeous loving pure bred border collie weve had for 1 year. Was spayed upon adoption.
Regretfully, weve not been the home for her and have faced many challenges. This is her story:
She is an ex breeding rehomed dog, we had a little land, I'm an active stay at home mum, so the rehoming pound thought she'd do great with us. I have no idea how many litters she's had, or anything about her 5 years of life.
On the first day I had her, whilst absolutely full of love, I move around my home quickly as a busy mum and found Koda ducking down if I moved suddenly. I didn't think too much of it as she's so perfect in every other way, well trained and behaved beautifully, so very tolerant of my children.
Koda liked to escape, so we invested in a geo fence collar which did the trick (it will be recommended to purchase with the dog if you don't have a well fenced section).
I've met her physical needs well, exercising good amounts daily and everything else a border collie needs,
BUT I have found over the months her anxiety grows. I just don't think we can offer her what she needs no matter what we've tried. Her emotional needs are the real challenge here, and I believe she needs an expert human. It's just that our home is busy and noisy at times, she does not like the noise of my kids having the odd fight, or me telling them loudly for the 5th time to get their shoes on! Koda hates this and may run off to wee somewhere in the house. I try to give her lots of affection as she demands but she needs me more than my kids it feels, and I just can't always meet that need. Being a stay at home mum wasn't the best option for Koda because she needs more than physical presence, she needs lots of emotion availability.
All that said, let's talk the positives!
Great on a lead, comes back when called if running around the beach. Loves the water. Wants to follow you absolutely everywhere, including the toilet! She wants to be worshipped and adored, and gains SO much attention from strangers.
